What We Do

Our Mission

Black & Brown Founders provides community, education and access to Black and Latinx entrepreneurs, allowing them to build successful tech businesses with modest resources.

We started on this path in 2017, and have now organized 5 meticulously curated workshops and conferences to help entrepreneurs of color who are cash-strapped. At each one, 100% of our participants said they would attend another Black & Brown Founders event.

  • Black & Brown Founders Project: San Francisco, CA | March 2017

  • Black & Brown Founders Project: Philadelphia, PA | October 2017

  • Hustle House @ SXSW: Austin, TX | March 2018

  • Tech x Oakland Summit: Oakland, CA | April 2018

  • Project NorthStar: Philadelphia, PA | October 2018

Looking ahead, alongside our top-notch events, our organization is building training programs to provide our community with more hands-on help, and doing more reporting of the data we’re capturing along the way.

Our KEY METRIC

We want at least 10% of the businesses in the Black & Brown Founders community generating annual revenues of $500,000 or more, and creating at least 3 full-time jobs in addition to its founder(s).

“This conference was life changing, and really helped me in the direction I am taking my organization. I actually know what I have to do and how to do it.”

WhY WE DO IT

Vision and Values

Technology and innovation are key to the future of the American economy, and are largely driven by entrepreneurship and technological advancements.

It offers a great opportunity to close gaps of income and wealth, which is why participation by Black and Latinx people in the “innovation economy” is important. Its products and services are quickly becoming connected to all aspects of human life, and shaping new societal norms.

Diverse participation in the innovation economy means the ability to help build an equitable and inclusive world.

We believe that anyone with a great solution to an important problem, and the determination to bring to it life, should have the opportunity to build it.

If we can increase diverse entrepreneurship and start building tech from truly diverse perspectives, then we can start to develop the best solutions for the communities that need them most.

“This is the conference to attend if you're ready to make moves.

There was a clear theme in all presentations to equip us with the tools needed to go fish for ourselves.”

“An inspiring heartfelt event that was designed to provide founders with the tools, experiences and support necessary to be better creators of successful businesses.

This event combined dynamic speakers, spectacular venues, and a diverse set of attendees to shape one of the best summits I have attended. Every aspect of the event demonstrated a clear vision and purposeful crafting.”
